Simplify your skincare routine with this simple natural face cleanser. A natural Castile Soap paired with an oil suited for your skin type and customized with the perfect essential oil blend will cover any skincare concerns you have.

Life is busy and the last thing on my brain is skincare. Open up any one social media platform and you are bombarded with ads for a million different skincare cleansers, serums, moisturizers, masks, blah blah blah. It is overwhelming and hard to tell which is best. With a busy schedule, nobody has time to sort through the mess and pick out which would be best for such a simple, mundane task.
I also like to keep things natural, especially what is going on my skin. Many of the products on the market are filled with chemicals, toxins or even just fillers that I am paying for. These products are expensive for junk. I just cannot get on board with that.
But with the colder months quickly approaching, my skin is beginning to dry out and look dull. I have been working on a very simple skincare routine that can be done quickly in the morning and evenings, is natural and non-toxic, and makes my skin healthy and fresh looking.
Of course with this goal in mind, I set out to find a simple set of products that I can easily keep on hand and whip up whenever needed. I do not want to spend 45 minutes every morning for skincare nor do I want to spend a ton of money on this.
After doing some research, I learned that I easily have everything on hand that I need for my first product that I needed: cue the Castile soap.
What is castile soap good for?
If you have read my all purpose cleaning spray post, you know that I love to keep just a simple “capsule” collection of cleaning products. One of these beloved products is castile soap.
But castile soap is not just for cleaning. In fact, Dr. Bronner’s website lists a long list of uses for their castile soap ranging from cleaning to self care and even baby products. It is useful for so many things AND it is non-toxic!
This is why I keep it on hand. I can use it for most anything I made need without worrying about it being in my home and around my family. This is definitely important for something I am using on my skin everyday.
One thing to keep in mind is that any soap, including castile soap, can be drying to the skin. In this recipe, we will dilute the soap with water and a carrier oil to help with this.
Which carrier oil is best for face?
There are a lot of opinions on this. I tend to lean towards using coconut oil for everything. It is full of fatty acids and is antimicrobial properties. However, it can be comedogenic meaning it can clog your pores and cause break outs. If you are not acne prone or have oily skin, coconut oil may work great for you. But if you do not fall into this category, I suggest the following carrier oils:
Grapeseed Oil– Grapeseed oil also has antimicrobial properties and is great for moisturizing skin.
Jojoba Oil– Jojoba oil mimics the natural oils of our skin, making this one of the best oils for skin care.
Avocado Oil– Avocado oil is great for moisturizing skin and fighting acne.
There are many other great carrier oil options but I find them to be expensive or hard to find. The three listed above are easily accessible and budget friendly.
What Essential Oils are good for Cleansing Skin?
Essential Oils are great for skin. They are healing and natural ways to fight many common skin issues.
Frankincense- Frankincense is probably one of the most well known oils for skin. It is great for healing and soothing skin, improving imperfections and general skin health.
Lavender- Lavender is known for calming and improving sleep but it is also great for skin. Just as it is calming to the body, it is calming to the skin. It can improve texture and elasticity as well as soothe minor irritations.
Tea Tree- Tea Tree is great for cleansing the skin, making it perfect in this natural face cleanser. It has purifying and soothing properties.
Rose- Rose oil is perfect for moisturizing and improving the texture of skin.
Geranium- Geranium is similar to rose oil. It also helps with acne, breakouts and aging.
My Choice for a Natural Face Cleanser

I am limited in sleep with a 10 month old in the house and want to freshen up my skin. Fighting the occasional breakout, clogged pores and dullness in my skin is also important. Here is my choice for a natural face cleanser:
Lavender Essential Oil- 5 Drops
Tea Tree Essential Oil- 5 Drops
Apple Cider Vinegar
Castile Soap
Grapeseed Oil
While other oils would have been beneficial to add, I wanted to keep the cost low and the wash simple. Saving the more expensive oils for a moisturizer or serum gets better results and keeps a very simple face cleanser.
My Routine
I am working on my routine still but what seems to be working is a simple rinse of my face with water only in the morning, followed by a toner and light moisturizer.
In the evening, I like to remove my makeup with a wet cloth and cleanser with this natural face cleanser. I love to do this at night because it removes all of my makeup, dirt from the day and the lavender helps with relaxation. I like to work the cleanser in with my fingers then remove with a damp cloth to remove the cleanser and any dead skin.
I follow this up with the same toner and moisturizer from the morning and a serum. I am working on the toner, moisturizer, and serum for the blog!
Ingredients for Natural Face Cleanser

1/2 Cup Unscented Castile Soap
1 Teaspoon Carrier Oil of your choice
1 Tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar
5 Drops Essential Oils of your choice
How to Make this Natural Face Cleanser DIY
- Add all ingredients to a foaming soap dispenser. I just used an old lotion bottle but do plan to pick up a glass one ASAP! I love this mason jar one and will probably grab it.
- Fill the rest up with water and give a little shake.
- Shake before each use
That’s it! It could not be easier.
This is why I love keeping a collection of ingredients on hand that can be used for so many things. It simplifies routines, keeps toxic products out, and makes it easy to take better care of myself while caring for my family.
